To visually unify my collateral project about brain trauma, I decided to take photographs of individuals within the demographics effected by brain trauma wearing plain white masks. Because brain trauma victims experience changes in behavior and emotions, they frequently struggle to maintain healthy relationships with loved-ones; the mask symbolizes the disconnect brain trauma victims experience internally as they struggle between their post-trauma and pre-trauma identities. In the second set of photographs, the victims remove the masks, which is meant to symbolize the ability to overcome the trauma and promote action to get brain trauma victims the proper care for their injuries.
