After doing some research about the time period, however, I decided there were elements of the 1930's I could collage together that could still showcase the time-period. The 1930's are known as the "Golden Age" of television, so most of the pop culture imagery stemmed from black and white films.
Shown in the poster below are the following that originated from the 1930's.
- De Stijl Art Movement - the famous style of Mondrian that peaked in the 1930's
- The Three Stooges - the epically hilarious trio that starred in their first Hollywood film in 1930
- Betty Boop & Superman - both cartoon characters that made their debut in the 1930's
- Monopoly - the board game that distracted families from the failing state of the U.S. economy
- The Hobbit - a classic novel written in 1937 by the great J. R. R. Tolkien
- The Chrysler Building - the iconic building in Manhattan that finished construction in 1930
- The Great Depression - the attitude of the population struggling with poverty
- Vivien Leigh - the most famous actress that played Scarlett O'Hara in "Gone With The Wind"
In this assignment, we were allowed to use images from the internet, which I did to capture the authenticness of the 1930's that would otherwise be lost in recreating imagery from so long ago. All of the images in my poster collage are not my original creations and belong to their rightful owners.
